GEMI is an autonomous institute constituted by Government of Gujarat. One of the mandates is to promote cleaner environmental management practices in order to keep pace with overall developmental needs of people of Gujarat through a well designed and properly structured environmental awareness programme. Hence, it is considered important to know the environmental needs, share experiences, valuable views and growing concern of people from all parts of the state for maintaining environmental cleanliness. For this purpose, GEMI intends to make an effort to provide a platform to the people of Gujarat.

Environmental Volunteer

We know that all those places where we live, work or move around needs a proper environmental balance for providing a sustainable life support system to all living organisms. These places may be our home, garden, farm, wetland, village, school, society, mohalla, town, city, industrial unit, etc. Main role of the Environmental Volunteer is to share the valuable information, experience or views or photos on various aspects of environment around their places every month. GEMI shall suitably make a compilation in the form of e-magazine and put it on its website. Annual review of the e-magazine would be taken up by GEMI for choosing the best three Environmental Volunteers. Suitable prizes and certificates shall be given to them.

Future activities for the volunteers may include annual exhibitions, meetings / workshops at village / district levels, short visits, competitions of various types such as painting, report writing, cartoon making, photos, slogans, etc. A provision of rewarding the promising volunteers would be inbuilt for recognizing their valuable roles in caring for the environmental needs around their own habitats. The tasks may be further expanded with the suggestions of our esteemed volunteers.
