POLLUTION CONTROL AT TOURIST SPOTS (PCTS)


INTRODUCTION :


There is increasing pressure at the eco-sensitive tourist spots in Gujarat. This is due to the rapid increasing in the number of visitors to this spots particularly during the vacations and religious occasions. Due the these picks there is an increase in the demand of resources such as water supply, food and amenities. Simulteneously there is a generation of large quantity of waste putting the stress on the environment and quality of life.

It is proposed under these studies to identify the sources of pollution and to provide short term and long term solution so that the ecological balance is restored without affecting the economy of the region. This would ensure that these tourist spots are able to take load of further increase in the influx of tourists without suffering environmental degradation on a sustainable basis.


SCOPE OF WORK

  • Pollution source inventorization.
  • Pollution source identification and quantification.
  • Treatability studies of the wastes.
  • Suggesting most suitable methods for treatment.
  • Recommendation to the Government and Local Authority.

following activities are to be carried out

  1. Identification of ecologically sensitive tourist spot in the state.
  2. Monitoring and assessment of the quality of the environment at the tourist spots.
  3. Monitoring and asessment of pollution sources.
  4. Lab scale and pilot scale study of treatment.
  5. Basic design of pollution treatment system required for the tourist spots.

Duration of the activity initially would be one year and may extend as necessary.
