REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT OF ONE OF THE SENSITIVE INDUSTRIAL AREA OF GUJARAT

INTRODUCTION :

Gujarat is one of the higly industrialized states of the country and most of the small scale industries are located in GIDC Estates. Some of the estates are exemplary and successful in development of industrial infrastructure. However, the environmental impact of this development needs to be collectively reassessed to make it sustainable in future with a scope of further development. Comprehensive Regional Environment Impact Assessment is a need of the time.

It is proposed to carry out Regional Environment Impact Assessment (REIA) of the particular sensitive industrial area as per the priority and magnitude of the prevailing pollution problems. The REIA would identify the long term and short term steps necessary to be taken for safeguarding the environment and also for future development of the area on sustainable basis.

This will also be useful for environmental benchmarking, be as a developmental tool and key to resource optimization.

SCOPE OF WORK :

  • Source inventerization and mapping.
  • Baseline data compilation.
  • Impact analysis.
  • To plan and ask for financial contribution by Regional Industries.

following activities are to be carried out

  1. Industrial and topographical mapping of the area.
  2. Assessment of generation of Air, Water and Hazardous Waste of the area.
  3. Assessment of natural resources of the area (in terms of assimillatory capacity).
  4. Short term and long term Environment Management Planning of the area.

Duration of the activity initially would be one year and may extend as necessary.
