Exhibit No. 1 organizational structure for GEMI.

The organization plan divides the activity of the institute in following operational sections, these are

  • Business Development Group and Research Advisory council
  • Planning group
  • Activity groups with respective heads of departments (Scientific and Administrative)
  • Project executing groups
  • Project management teams

Business development group (BDG) and the Research Advisory Committee (RAC)

The BDG comprising three senior officials of the GEMI and two members from university and local R&D groups from industries review the requirements and need for R&D and advise the director about the projects which can be taken up through sponsored research. The BDG is proposed to meet once in 3 months.

Other advisory body for identification of the R&D areas for the GEMI will be the RAC. Senior most scientist act as the member Secretary of the RAC. It is proposed that two members of the Governing Council and one member of the Executive Committee are permanent members of the RAC. The RAC have representatives from Industries, Industries Associations, Ministry of Environment and Forest, CPCB, GPCB, other central and state govt. organizations related to the field of environment, Research Institutes, IITs, NGOs, and other identified agencies which will be instrumental in guiding the director GEMI to get sponsored projects in appropriate fields. RAC meets twice in a year.

Collaboration


After starting the activities from October-2000 GEMI has signed MOUs with NEERI, Nagpur and made arrangements with M. S. University, Vadodara for R&D and also started mobilizing its own resources to have collaborations with GIDC and other such agencies involved in the area of Environment Management. In the initial stages GEMI has started acquiring required state of art Instruments and equipments for laboratory as well as fieldwork along with necessary infrastructural facilities to carry out R&D and monitoring / analysis work. Projects on cleaner technology, waste minimization & its exchange has been granted to GEMI by the Govt. Three more projects have been proposed and are under consideration with the Govt. GEMI has been recognized by the GPCB as Environmental Auditor for Schedule-I & II Industries. GEMI has completed one consultancy project for bulk drug industries to solve its problem of difficult waste by suggesting appropriate treatment after carrying out continuous field study with series of experiments. Many other R&D projects are under. Assessment of adequacy of CETP and conveyance systems have been completed and many other projects on this line are expected. GEMI has organized few seminars on the subjects of cleaner technology and hazardous waste management. An information brochure for GEMI has been prepared and widely circulated to all the major agencies, industries and organizations in order to interact closely with respect to their issues related to Environment Management. Thus GEMI is to shape its establishment and functioning to perform as a center of excellence in the field of Environment Management & MOU for collaborative work in the area of environmental management.
