Laboratory of GEMI
The Laboratory of GEMI at Vadodara, earlier was housed in the office premises that was located in Marble Arch. The total Area of the premises was only 1700 Square Feet. The Lab has now been shifted in a premises in GIDC and has a total area of 7000 Square Feet with a built up area of 5000 Sq. Ft.
The Laboratory of GEMI was recognised under the provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974 and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981 by the Forest & Environment Department, Government of Gujarat as “State Water Lab” and “State Air Lab” respectively vide Government of Gujarat’s notification no. GNV(30)/Env-10-2011-1941-E, dated 1st September, 2012. The Government of Gujarat has also specified Gujarat Environment Management Institute’s Laboratory, to be called as GEMI’s Laboratory. The Scientific Officer of GEMI was also been appointed as Government Analyst under the provision of Water Act 1974 vide Government of Gujarat’s notification no. GNV(30)/Env-10-2011-1941-E, dated 22nd January, 2013.
The laboratory carries out analysis of water, waste water and air. The laboratory would soon equipped it self with facilities for microbiological, hazardous waste and soil analysis. The Lab is in the process of acquiring various Equipments/Instruments related with carrying out analysis related with above.
The laboratory has the following sections:-
- Wet /Water Section
- Dry /Air Section
- Microbiological section
- Soil Section including Hazardous Waste
- Facility to carry out Toxicity Test.
